NDY WELCOMES KUCHENGA AS OUR
SECOND EDITOR FOR NDY
“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation,
and that is an act of political warfare.”
― Audre Lorde
We who are trans, queer and/or black, indigenous, people of colour may consider ourselves to all be the spiritual offspring of Audre Lorde in emotion and intellect. To have an ancestor like her who forged resistance that sustains ongoing generations is the biggest metaphysical gift she could have given us. She warned us of the pitfalls we would find in trying to live a life of liberation and as a warrior let us know that we needed ‘self-care’ in order to face what we do. The writers I have commissioned for NDY Global embody this politic in ways subtle and glorious. Their writing reminds us all what we must do to endure through the fire and arrive at our dreamed of destinations solid, healthy and whole but also perpetually in transition, knowing that everything must change - including us.
